Midivaderz Game Jam Post-Mortem: A Heartfelt Thank You

First off, I want to extend a massive thank you to everyone who has played and rated my debut game in my first game jam. The support has been overwhelming, and I'm excited to share some insights from this adventure!

Successes

  • Player Engagement: We've seen over 150+ game plays in just 8 days, which is incredibly encouraging for a first release.
  • User Experience: Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, especially regarding the smooth gameplay experience on mobile devices.
  • Creative Additions: The introductory video was a blast to create and has been effective in bringing the game's storyline to life.
  • Community Impact: The MidIPunkz are thrilled with the increasing audience for our collaborative track, "DJ DJ Spin that Record," which has added a fantastic vibe to the game.

Challenges

  • Platform Focus: My focus was heavily tilted towards mobile optimization, resulting in issues with the fullscreen mode on desktop versions. I'm currently testing a fix that should resolve this soon.
  • Gameplay Pacing: The game's pace has felt a bit slow, particularly the Red DJz who seem to fall too leisurely. I'm looking into adjusting their speed to enhance the gameplay dynamic.
  • Visual Clarity: There have been some concerns about the visibility of the Red DJz compared to the ship, which I plan to address to improve the visual contrast and player experience.

Learnings

  • Leveraging Technology: Utilizing PhaserJS's scalable support has been a learning curve. It's taught me the importance of adapting game features from mobile dimensions to full-screen views seamlessly.
  • Community Feedback: The Itch.io platform has proven to be an invaluable tool for sharing our development journey and receiving constructive feedback from the gaming community.

Moving forward, I'm excited to refine Midivaderz based on this feedback and to continue creating engaging and enjoyable gaming experiences. Stay tuned for updates, and once again, thank you for being part of this journey!
